Ordinary People (2023)
Ordinary People is the first retrospective work by photographer Rob Hornstra. The book accompanies the eponymous exhibition at the Fotomuseum Den Haag, opening on December 9, 2023.
During his career, Rob Hornstra achieved world fame with his socially engaged projects, such as 101 Billionaires, The Sochi Project and Man Next Door. In the rich tradition of humanist photography - to which among others luminaries as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans and Ed van der Elsken belong, he focuses on creating a human image of his own time. Inspired by German photographer August Sander, he has been doing this for 20 years, using a self-defined list of categories that acts as a signpost in the production of new work. The book Ordinary People gives a surprising insight into the twenty-year oeuvre of an impassioned photographer.
